On Tuesday, November 20, 2018 The Public Art Learning Series was presented by the City of Ottawa Public Art Program to provide artists and arts professionals alike with key knowledge, tools and methods to take ideas from the studio into the field of public art.

This session provided tips and guidelines on creating public art in an outdoor setting with experts from le Centre de conservations du Québec (CCQ). The presentation was in English with bilingual support material and bilingual Q&A. 

This session helped artists with conception and long-term conservation of outdoor public art. The presentation included guiding principles that should be considered when creating public art, such as where to find relevant technical information and the importance of good workmanship during production. Special attention was given to materials typically used in permanent outdoor public art such as metals (steel and aluminum) and metal finishes (paint), glass, ceramic, and electrical and electronic components.

Le Centre de conservations du Québec (CCQ) is a provincial institution attached to the Quebec Ministry of Culture and Communications. Its mission is to contribute to the conservation and restoration of Quebec’s cultural heritage, including artefacts, art works, furniture, public art, etc. The centre helps to increase the visibility and the accessibility of such heritage to the greater public.
