Artist Statement

In my artistic practice I share my love my colour and design with community members and youth. I conduct workshops using animal hides to make clothing in the way of our ancestors, as was passed on by our elders. In my practices I translate my sketches and doodles into beadwork to embellish traditional clothing.

I am influenced by our elders teachings and passing on of knowledge from one generation to another. I was introduced to hide work when I was reconnecting with my Pikwàkanagàn community. An elder was holding a teaching on moccasin making. My love for hides began there. I started beading hides to embellish hides as my ancestors did.

Public Art

I painted a paddle as part of the Pimisi Station – Algonquin Painted Paddle installation using my doodle sketching technique to create an image that reflects my love for the natural world and its inter-relationship inspired by the teaching of “all our relations.”
