About The Artist Profiles

Profiles
These Indigenous artist profiles were written by Indigenous artists at workshops to inform and develop capacity for artists to participate in Ottawa public art competitions.  This is part of an initiative by the City of Ottawa Public Art Program to encourage Indigenous artists to participate in public art. Public art is an opportunity to create a presence of Indigenous art and culture in the Nation’s Capital.

Workshops: Stage 2 Light Rail Transit Ottawa Public Art Program
Indigenous artists were invited to an Indigenous artist workshop to learn:
  1. About City of Ottawa’s public art opportunities open to Indigenous artists
  2. How to write an artist statement, artist biography, public art curriculum vitae (résumé) and photograph your work

Indigenous artists learned how public art opportunities are right for them. The workshops were designed to get artists ready, even if they are a newbie to public art. Public art reflects a diversity of artistic expressions: sculpture, traditional arts, visual, carving, photography, beadwork, video, etc.

The City of Ottawa will be announcing its plans for the Stage 2 Ottawa Light Rail Transit Public Art Program. The City has confirmed $11 million as part of the public art program. The Stage 2 LRT program envisions an artist collaborative to work together around a theme or expression. The venues include outdoor and indoor art.
